Scotland 2 -2 USSR
June 1982 – World Cup

Scotland needed victory in their final group match to secure their passage to the second phase of the world cup. They started off very brightly against USSR as Jordan had few fantastic chances saved well by the Soviet keeper, before he gave them a first half lead. The second half was a different story from the first as they lost their momentum. Russia equalized through Chivadze and they went ahead via Shengalia after a terrible mix up between Alan Hansen and Willie Miller had given him a clear run. Scotland immediately pressed on in search of an equalizer, despite Souness scoring a second levelling the match, the score line remained 2-2 and Scotland were knocked out of the world cup despite a great performance.
