England 2- 3 Scotland
Date Played – 15th April 1967

In a European championship qualification match, England was certainly the favourites to beat Scotland at home. However with a huge number of Scottish fans travelling to the game, it proved to be anything but that.
England fielded almost their world cup winning team, whereas Scotland, under their new manager Bobby Brown, had a much changed starting line up. Ronnie Simpson of Celtic made his debut in goal for the Scots at the age of 36 and there was also a formidable selection of other Celtic and Rangers playing for Scotland. On the wings, Scotland fielded Lennox and Wallace, both of whom had won European Cup Winners medals several weeks earlier. Scotland played tremendously well in this British encounter. They showed their ability from the start to move down the line and cross the ball for Dennis Law to trouble the English defence. When Jackie Charlton limped off with a broken toe during the earlier stages of the match, the English struggled to cope with the lively Scottish attack and, despite he bravely returned to play in the centre forward position, this in turn gave Scotland the edge. Denis Law scored for the Scots in the first half and England, troubled by an additional injury to full back Wilson, looked to be facing a similar sort of four or five goal rout inflicted by them on Scotland in 1961. The only reason England were not heavily defeated was due to brilliant individual performances by Bobby Moore and Alan Ball but mainly to the inability of the Scottish defence to exploit their advantage to the maximum. Bobby Lennox and Jim McCalliog sealed victory for Scotland in this fine 3-2 victory. Jack Charlton and Geoff Hurst appeared on the goal sheet for England.
